We are hosting a pre-registration only, planting/weeding session on Earth Day (Thursday, April 22nd) in different time slots to help beautify our outdoor classroom, as well as help kiddos develop a greater sense of environmental stewardship.

Welcome Parents, Students, and Friends to our Read-a-thon!
This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills, EVEN AT-A-DISTANCE! The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event.
We understand that, as parents, you have high expectations for the quality of your child’s education but also have limited time. That’s why we chose to hold a Read-a-thon. You will find this to be the easiest fundraiser possible. By simply activating your reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to your Read-a-thon.
But wait, there’s more!
The Top 3 Readers and the Top 3 Earners at Lincoln will win a prize!
Eric Smith said that “When kids grow up not seeing themselves in books, they grow up feeling like they don’t matter.” Instead of teachers having to pay out-of-pocket to add variety to their classroom libraries, this fundraiser is helping teachers supplement their classroom libraries with more diverse books! If we exceed our fundraising goal for books, the money raised by this fundraiser will also go towards enhancing PTA initiatives that will better reflect our physically, mentally, and emotionally diverse Lincoln Community. Curious about some of the characteristics at Lincoln? You can check out our Illinois Report Card!
Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of reading. We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page the day your child brings home their paperwork.
Are you looking for a way to get your kids outside while giving back to your community? Take part in our LincolnGrows Stewardship Team! Take your kids out and teach them about science, diversity, empathy, and preservation while taking care of our outdoor classroom.
Choose a day to be in charge of watering and weeding the garden. You choose the date and time! Pick either a Sunday or Monday date, or a Thursday or Friday date. You can go whatever time fits into your family’s schedule, but the weather is typically coolest earlier in the morning or later in the evening.
Current conditions with COVID prevent us from providing universal watering cans at the school, so you will need to bring your own watering cans and gloves. Water can be obtained from the water barrel and please only water the plants that need it. Only weed as long as you are comfortable. Take a small section and clear it of weeds as best as you can: there will always be more weeds than you have time for.
You can partner with another person/family if you are comfortable, but please no more than 10 people total at a time and remember to practice social distancing.
Also: if your kiddos are asking what the plants are in the space: please feel free to use our Plant ID Book!
At the request of several families (some of whom are graduating fifth grade families who would like to honor their children’s achievement) the Lincoln Elementary PTA has decided to reopen the brick fundraiser that was due to close in April.
What better way to leave the mark of your child, family, or that special teacher for all to see than with a personalized engraved brick? Funds raised by this drive will be used to support Lincoln Grows, our outdoor classroom initiative. Any excess funds will be used to support one of the many events and initiatives sponsored throughout the school year by the Lincoln Elementary PTA.
Each brick costs $85, and that includes engraving, shipping, and installation of the pavers. Just tell us what you want it to say, and we will handle the rest! Each brick is 4×8 and has 3 lines that can be engraved up to 13 characters per line. One special graphic can be added and is included in the price; however, the icon takes up three spaces in two lines of the grid.
