Read-A-Thon At Lincoln!

We will be starting on:
10-11-2021

Welcome Parents, Students, and Friends to our Read-a-thon!

This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills. It is the PERFECT segue into our GROWTH MINDSET WEEK! The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills and growing our fantastic elastic brains: turning “I can’t” into “I’ll try”.

Our Read-a-thon will start Monday, October 11th, 2021.

We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/sJyJwT and following the simple instructions. (search by teacher or by code you received from your teacher)

We understand that, as parents, you have high expectations for the quality of your child’s education but also have limited time. That’s why we chose to hold a Read-a-thon. You will find this to be the easiest fundraiser possible. By simply activating your reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to your Read-a-thon.

But wait, there’s more!

The Top 3 Readers and the Top 3 Earners at Lincoln will win a prize!

Top 3 Readers

  • First Place: a 2-hour activity pass for you and a friend at Sky Zone Joliet
  • Second Place: a Pizza party for you and your family delivered by Jynx the Lynx
  • Third Place: Two games of bowling at Plainfield Lanes

Top 3 Earners

  • First Place: a 2-hour activity pass for you and a friend at Sky Zone Joliet
  • Second Place: a Pizza party for you and your family delivered by Jynx the Lynx
  • Third Place: Two games of bowling at Plainfield Lanes

Financially, we are attempting to raise $10,000 in funds that will go towards: LincolnGrows enhancements for our outdoor classroom (including additional seating), D.E.I. initiatives that will support our physically, mentally, and emotionally diverse Lincoln Community*, events supporting our core value weeks, and school supplies requested to support staff and students alike.

Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of reading. Help us encourage our children to expand what they think is possible during Growth Mindset Week as we expand their brains through reading! We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page the day your child brings home their paperwork.

Lincoln Grows Stewardship Program!

Thank you for your interest in joining the LincolnGrows Stewardship Team!

We are looking for friends, families, and community members to come and help with summer maintenance of the outdoor classroom.

LincolnGrows is our outdoor classroom initiative designed to engage, inspire, and empower through getting outdoors. Studies have shown that schools with an outdoor curriculum score higher than those with traditional systems in 72% of assessments: in everything from math and science to attendance. Apart from academics, research shows that time in nature: facilitates physical development, reduces violence and bullying, develops and interest in science and math in connection with nature, increases cooperation, boosts cognitive functioning, reduces stress, improves focus and attention, and builds stewardship skills for the environment. For more information about LincolnGrows, Click Here!

What you can do:

-Sign up for a slot HERE

-Bring gloves & watering cans (and water bottles for you… it can get hot out there!)

-Weeding: if you aren’t sure if its a weed, PLEASE leave it alone. It is a big space, so don’t feel like you need to do everything. Every little bit helps!

-Water (if it hasn’t rained in the last 2 days) the plants that look thirsty. The water barrel in the southeast corner of the space should be full of water. High-maintenance fellows like our hydrangea should get hit with water every time you go out there. Our raised beds are irrigated, so you don’t need to water there.

-Explore the space with your group and see how nature can be used to teach: grit, growth mindset, curiosity, collaboration, and empathy. There might even be a few fun games out there to play while you work!

Thank you for supporting Lincoln and giving our kinesthetic learners a place to learn and grow!

Lincoln PTA Planner Proposal

Hi Lincoln Community!

The time has come to start setting up the schedule for PTA happenings at Lincoln for next year! Over the next few weeks, our newly elected PTA board will be setting the budget for next year and WE WANT YOUR INPUT! The Lincoln PTA is committed to supporting Lincoln’s Core Values of Grit, Growth Mindset, Curiosity, Collaboration, and Empathy.

Things are beginning to open up again, but, due to COVID, this year will still look very different than years past. Odds are that we will still not be able to have our large-scale events like Fall Fest, but even though things will look different, we are hoping to be able to follow along in the very successful vein of the QuaranTEAM Quest, STEM Week, Read-a-Thon, and the Hi-Jynx Scavenger hunt with things that will bring us together to the best of our ability.

If there is a fundraiser, event, or initiative that you have an idea for, enjoyed in the past, or maybe you are a new family joining us from Walkers Grove or Eagle Pointe… we would love to get your ideas for things you would like to see occur at Lincoln.

Below is our PTA planner. If you are interested in proposing something… the below planner may help you to get organized to provide the most details about your event.

If you would like to propose something, please submit your ideas to lincoln202pta@gmail.com no later than May 31st, 2021 to be considered for money allocated for next year’s budget.

We are also looking for chairs for the following committees. If you would like to volunteer (or chair) one of these committees, again, please email us at lincoln202pta@gmail.com:

  • CAPE (District PTO) Representative
  • Spiritwear/Class Color Shirts
  • Lincoln Loves Plainfield/No-Cook Nights
  • Yearbook
  • Fifth Grade Farewell
  • Staff Appreciation
  • LincolnGrows
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Thank you for your help and we look forward to safely seeing you all soon!
